Meet Our Expert: Dr. Amy Shah

Dr. Amy Pravin Shah is a board certified psychiatrist with specialties in adult and geriatric psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is also board certified in addiction medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. She has learned about plant based nutrition and has an interest in nutritional psychiatry.

Her experience in psychiatry includes:

  • Residency training in Adult Psychiatry
  • Fellowship training in Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Working in urban and rural locations while providing services both in person and through telemedicine in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and South Dakota
  • Guiding trainees from the University of Louisville and nurse practitioners to help them learn psychiatric practice.
  • Gratis Faculty of University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky
  • Published author of mental health related journal articles and books
  • Experienced with short term psychotherapy both supportive, insight-oriented and dialectical behavioral therapy
  • She is an award winning physician.
  • Designated a Kentucky Colonel for service to the state of Kentucky in 2022.
  • Awarded with the President’s Volunteer Service Award by President Joseph Biden in 2021.

While a student in high school, Dr. Shah performed many hours of community service and volunteer work. This experience greatly informed her future decisions to help others and led her to become a community psychiatrist. She has been on the boards of several nonprofits and

continues to help social causes. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Shah has graduated with her MBA and Master of Science in Business Analytics. Dr. Shah is a published author. Aside from medicine, she is interested in technology, business and creative writing.
